Public Domain Feature Films August 21st, 2009
Feature films have enjoyed a long storied history. Films created in the early days of the business have long since outlived their original copyright. If the owners of the film allow the copyright to expire, the film becomes public property and the copyright is deemed public domain. Copyright law can be complicated and I’m no expert. However once a film falls into public domain, anyone may use the film for any purpose. That’s why you’ll sometimes see old monster movies bundled together on DVDs in video retail stores. The people who created the movie bundle have every right to package and resell these public domain films.
Fallen Angel #2 November 29th, 2008
This is phase 2 of my Fallen Angel short film project. The goal here was to add storyboards for the beats of the story. At this stage, I’m not trying to storyboard every shot. Instead, I’m trying to visualize how the story will match up with the music.
Fallen Angel #1 November 19th, 2008
This is my first posting for a new short film project I’m calling Fallen Angel. I haven’t written a treatment or script for this yet. I really don’t even have an outline at this point. However, I’ve put together a rough cut of the soundtrack I’m going to use. I selected sounds and music that have the right feel for the story I see in my head. The vimeo link below just plays the music I put together for this project.
The Operation November 19th, 2008
The Operation is a music video I helped create for Kyle Wheeler’s self published music CD titled The Operation. We shot this music video in the summer of 2006. My brother has a barn with a functioning butcher room, so that seemed like the prefect place to shoot this video. We had fun experimenting with ways to create some of the practical effects. For example, we used compressed air and a garden hose to spray blood during the operation sequence. The butcher room was very hot, so the blood spraying shots were a welcome relief to those eager to be cooled off.
The Forsaken Souls November 14th, 2008
The Forsaken Souls is a zombie concept trailer I put together in the summer of 2007. Here I’m experimenting with placing actors shot against green screen into backgrounds I created in Photoshop and After Effects.
Spooky Hollow Trailer November 11th, 2008
This is a trailer for my feature film Spooky Hollow. This film is a family friendly story about a headless horseman. I shot the scenes in the fall of 2005 and finished the film in 2006. I sent the film to a number of low budget friendly film festivals, but was rejected by all.
Heinz Zombie November 9th, 2008
This is my Top This TV Challenge entry for Heinz Ketchup that I created in the summer of 2007. The idea was to create a 30 second commercial that demonstrates the greatness of Heinz ketchup. My submission did not place in the contest.
Fall of the Forsaken November 8th, 2008
This is a zombie concept trailer I created in early 2007. I’ve always been a zombie movie fan, and decided to try dropping live action zombies into a virtual graveyard background. The dialog spoken by the narrator was derived from the opening sequence of George Romero’s ‘Night of the Living Dead.’
Beast from Haunted Planet November 8th, 2008
This is a scifi concept trailer I made in the fall of 2006. I wanted to experiment with integrating CG elements with live action. The idea was to create a 1950s style theme, with iconic props such as rockets, ray guns, and robots. The title comes from a cross between two 1950s scifi movies: ‘Beast from Haunted Cave’ and ‘Forbidden Planet.’ I like to think of this concept trailer as a previz for a future feature film project.
