Fourth Order Light

Welcome to the Fourth Order Light website.  My name is Terry Howald, and this my blog dedicated to DSLR photography and cinematography.

A number of manufacturers now sell camera models capable of shooting photos and video. The addition of video to DSLR cameras makes for an exciting time as photographers begin to explore cinematography. Shooting video with DSLR cameras will be one of the topics covered in this blog.

The video capabilities of DSLR cameras is exciting, but one shouldn’t lose sight that these are great photography cameras as well. In addition to discussing cameras and equipment topics, I’ll be writing posts on photowalking and timelapse photography.

The best way to improve one’s photography skills is to get out there and shoot photographs. Photowalks are great a way to better one’s photo skills. One simply chooses a location, grabs a camera, and walks around for the sole purpose of seeking subjects to photograph. Photowalks are an equal opportunity for the young and old without any bias toward camera make or model.

Timelapse photography is a technique where photos are taken at regular intervals over a duration of time. For example, one might photograph clouds in the sky every ten minutes for a duration of 2 hours. Playing back the pictures at a faster rate allows one to see the cloud movement over the duration period.

Stop by and check us out from time to time. Maybe you’ll learn something new in this exciting time for photography.
